No matter how fine your palette is, I don’t know anyone who can say they don’t like some good ole’ nachos.
Chips, cheese, meat, more cheese, and your favorite toppings all in one plate- how can you go wrong?? The WORLD’S greatest nachos (and I will argue with anyone on this) are ironically not found in a mom and pop shop in the South, they are at the chain Brother Jimmy’s BBQ, conveniently located in Union Square Park and Midtown here in NYC.
The menu labels them “a mountain of nachos,” and that is exactly what they are- this is a true Southern portion. Served as a generous portion of chips, hearty serving of meat, beans, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and melted cheese. Being that Brother Jimmy’s is a BBQ restaurant, the meat is correctly braised and shredded. I prefer pulled pork but you can switch it up. The beans and baked and are actually seasoned and you can taste it, giving a tangy kick I didn’t know my nachos forevermore will need. And the toppings are plentiful. Your nachos come topped with a heaping spoonful of guacamole, salsa, and sour cream but then mixed within the chips, meat and cheese there are bites of tomato and onion for crunch. I say mixed within the chips because we’ve all been there, when we get to the second half of our nachos and have run out of the “good stuff.” Not here, as you go deeper down your mountain, new toppings await and others found again. I absolutely love that about these, that I don’t finish just eating some chips. Lastly, the cheese. Just take a look at the above. I never want to know how much cheese goes into one plate because it’s got to be a shocking amount with how much it blankets the nachos. No complaints, just don’t tell me!
Nothing needs to be added and nothing needs to be taken out in my opinion. These are simply perfect and best enjoyed with an ice cold brew. With football season right around the corner, and the fun atmosphere “Bro J’s” is known for, I see these in my near future myself!
Disclaimer: this review does not reflect the actual chain Brother Jimmy’s, which the rest of their food I do not have as high of an opinion on…
