Grimaldi’s Pizza

Grimaldi’s Pizza

It wouldn’t be right to start this blog off with anything other than the one true love of every foodie living in New York City: pizza!!!

The New York slice is known for its crisp, thin crust, more than fair share of tomato sauce, and fresh mozzarella cheese. From the dollar slice to the fancy restaurant wood fired pie, it knows no bounds or amount of variations- and I for one am a fan of almost all.
While Lombardi’s may have sold the first pizza, Grimaldi’s has become arguably the go to spot for a traditional NY pie. Pictured below out of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge location, is the make your own naked pie. While I’m one for toppings overload, this cheesy goodness was shared with the other Banjac sibling who has those preteen picky taste buds we are all waiting for him to outgrow. Just fresh mozzarella, chicken, onions and sundries tomato fired wood grilled to perfection.
The toppings were authentic, they’ve mastered the cook time and the cheese- don’t get me started on the FRESH cheese. The mozzarella is handmade in house and used on all of their mozzarella featured pizzas. Also made in house, their secret recipe dough. I think these two facts are the “secret sauce” of the pizzas as the dough and cheese are tantalizing and make each pizza absolutely delicious.
It’s really going to be hard for me to find fault with many New York pizza’s. Was it the best I’ve ever had? Maybe no. Compared to all other pizza in New York is it worth that much hype? Still yes. Was it delicious and gone within a matter of minutes? Absolutely. There’s something to be said for coal fired pizza from a brick oven, it will always be better than a traditional bake.
It’s no wonder Grimaldi’s is rated number one time and time again and boasts the most pizza awards in the United States- will be back Mr.Grimaldi!
Bonus mini-review,  Brooklyn Ice Cream factory is located a short walk towards the water from Grimaldi’s. It’s location on the water makes it prime for some cool pictures with a couple of cold scoops. See below:
Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is located in an ex-fireboat house turned into a cute boutique ice cream Shoppe. They only do a couple handfuls of flavors but what they do, they do well. Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, butter pecan. I opted for the banana split to 1. have them all and 2. go big. No regrets here, the ice cream is absolutely divine. If you’re looking for an ice cream that’s filled with all the stuffing’s and toppings mixed in, you won’t be so impressed. But if you are looking for a couple of flavorful scoops with an excellent consistency, you’re in the right place. Add some banana, strawberry, whipped cream and chocolate shavings and you’ve nearly got a meal.
A dessert meal is just my kind of thing, so I highly recommend making the walk over!
