This past Thursday, December 15, received quite a bit of attention on social media outlets in honor of one of America’s most beloved baked goods- the cupcake!
Well lucky for me, Mina and Alan had spent the entire weekend before here in New York City and let’s just say it was a foodie’s heaven of a weekend. One of our stops, West Village’s infamous Molly’s Cupcakes.
These cupcakes are good- really really good. Pictured above are three chocolate based cupcakes, two with cream cheese frosting and one with buttercream frosting. In order to get a sense of the true quality and goodness of the cupcakes, I felt I had to go basic, which is not my typical style as I like things loaded with extras.
These cupcakes did not disappoint. So simple and yet so incredibly delicious. The ingredients are fresh and high-quality, making even the most simple of menu choices an extraordinary treat. The cake itself is as moist as can be and baked to absolute perfection. The cream cheese frosting is light and airy, and the consistency is just right to get a perfect bite each time. These cupcakes are fresh and satisfying, a good feeling you want to take away after eating what can be seen as a mini cake. It is no wonder these cupcakes are the winners of multiple accolades, including Cupcake Wars ultimate champions.
Flavored cupcakes include Creme Brulee, Peanut Butter Nutella, Cookie Monster, Tiramisu, Peach Cobbler, Strawberry Shortcake, and much more. Each cupcake has a center filling full of whatever flavor you’ve chosen, making them even more pronounced. These fillings are really good themselves, to the point where I’d look into bottling them up. If none catch your attention, you can build your own like we did and head over to the sprinkle station. You can even make it vegan, or you can try Molly’s homemade ice cream, bars, cookies, or cheesecakes and pies. My high rating stands for all of these goodies!
Fun back story: Ms.Molly was an elementary school teacher who would bake her students cupcakes for their birthdays. Once this was no longer allowed by the mayor in NYC due to a health initiative, the idea of a store arose and I am sure everyone who has been is thankful for that. To this day, a portion of every sale is donated to helping schools in the community and they even have a contact info for schools who would like to be considered to be involved in the program. So, eat up!
