Somehow December has managed to sneak upon us, and this month means one thing- HOLIDAYS!
No matter what you choose to celebrate, or not to, you can’t deny the city becomes magical. The streets are adorned with lights and decorations, there are trees everywhere you go, and even the grumpiest of New Yorker’s have a little cheer. For me, the holidays mean one thing: getting to spend time back home in Florida with family. With that, I think it’s time to review one of the greatest foods I have ever eaten, and look forward to every Christmas season. Pictured above is the one and only Mina’s Smoked Mozzarella bread. Let those three words combined sink in. Let the ooze of that cheese sink in.
Is it possible to give over 5 stars? I am not being biased here, this bread is the greatest of all time. Those words have been uttered by almost everyone that has tried it, from my friends to family to anyone that stepped foot into Mina’s Bakery, you can not beat it.
Mina is already a connoisseur when it comes to the art of making homemade bread. From whole wheat to breadsticks to rolls and even fried bread, she can make it all. Her recipes, as most readers know, have been passed down and are true to their roots; but, what is missing from all of them is the magic touch that comes with her just making them, I’m convinced! In this case, something magical happens when you mix the homemade dough, smoked mozzarella cheese, and Mina’s touch because these are absolutely heavenly.
It starts with the smell- you 100% know when these are in the oven. The bread themselves without cheese would be delicious. They are crisp on the outside and with the way they are rolled, pull apart on the inside for a croissant-like effect. The smoked mozzarella is the kicker that makes these the best bread anyone who tries them has ever had. It melts among the layers and creates an almost earthy flavor aroma and taste. The combination is incredible: buttery, creamy, smoky, and bold are words that come to mind. They continue on to melt in your mouth and are a real flavor explosion.
Another great thing about these loaves of bread in particular, they are perfect for creating a toasty sandwich! Slice in half and add some of your favorite turkey, condiments, and veggies, you won’t need any cheese and viola! You have a sandwich made with the most delicious bread you have ever had. You can also make it your own. Fig jam for example goes great for a sweet and salty mix or grilled portobello mushroom for an earthy vegetarian-friendly sandwich.
So this holiday season, do yourself and your loved ones a favor and give these Smoked Mozzarella Breads a try. You will not regret it. As for myself, see you and these bad boys in 2 weeks, Mina!
