Continuing our Thailand journey!

Hello again!

So glad we are still here in Thailand, escaping the Coronavirus world and enjoying all that Thailand has to offer. ANYWAYS, what’s on the menu today? Two words: street food. I have always been one to prefer the street food of anywhere I go. Aside from the obvious value, the authenticity of the local culture and cuisine really draws me in. Don’t get me wrong, I will enjoy a Michelin star meal but if I had to choose just one, street food any day.

Today we’re taking diving into this beauty: pineapple fried rice in Amphoe Kathu Patong. Take. A. Look:

Kathu is a district in Phuket Island. If the waters, beautiful scenery, animals, or local isms don’t draw you in. The food is sure to. This masterful creation was purchased in a street food fair we just happened to run into on our way to check out the local nightlife. Let’s dive in.

After selecting the “flavors” you want in your pineapple, the vendor takes the oils, rice, the protein (chicken here), vegetables, fruits, and sauces into a large wok over an open fire and works their magic. These steams create scents that fill the market with heavenly smells of everything from mango sticky rice to satays. My meal truthfully looked the best, but maybe I am biased because I know how it tastes. Once complete, the contents of the meal are placed into a hollowed-out pineapple. An absolutely genius replacement for a plate.

The rice fried to perfection, completely enveloped in the flavors of the sauces and everything that goes into the pineapple. The chicken, scallions, veggies, and pineapple bits all in their absolute juiciest state. Then you get to the bottom and scrape the fresh pineapple with your fried rice and chicken and you realize, this is as good as it gets. My favorite part- the peanut bits adding a little crunch and saltiness needed to balance out the sweetness.

At the USD equivalent of about $5, this is, and I can not stress this enough, as good as it gets.

Street food will always have a place in my heart in Thailand, sharing some scenes with no reviews needed, just enjoying below:
