Although it really should be part one because this post is focused on one thing: the main course.
If you have not seen my review regarding their out of this world milkshakes, be sure to check it out as it is what made Black Tap the household name it is in NYC. I’m here to make sure their original signature dish, the burgers, do not become forgotten. The picture above isn’t the best, but as mentioned, the lighting is dark inside as it is a bar atmosphere (kid friendly still).
Here you see the Bison Burger with sweet potato fries, the Texan Burger, crispy brussels sprouts and the Teriyaki broccoli.
First things first, the appetizers. I am normally not a fan of brussels sprouts in any form. Who knew that frying them up made for a whole different experience?! OK probably man people did but this was my first time having them prepared this way and frying did its magic again and made another food more yummy. These are delicious and served with a sesame-tahini sauce that you’ll want to dip everything you order in. The teriyaki broccoli is tasty as well; however, if we were to order the same meal I would pass on this. The teriyaki flavor did not make sense with the overall meal but it could be a great add on to a different main dish, like their teriyaki wings. Sweet potato fries will always be my weakness. Sweet and salty and crisped to perfection, these are amazing. The original fries are thick cut and highly salted- not good for sodium levels but great for a dinner out.
The burgers are the real star of this entire order. The Bison burger is served with with fresh mozzarella, pesto mayo, arugula and shaved parmesan. This burger is a real winner. The bison meat is juicy and rich but not overly so, and not to mention a healthy alternative to beef. Bison also can taste cleaner and have a hint of sweetness, although the flavor ultimately is very similar to beef. The mozzarella and mayo are the perfect additions as toppings for a simple and delicious burger. The Texan was not quite as simple. This jaw dropper contains aged cheddar, crispy onions, bacon, sweet baby ray’s BBQ and mayo. In case you cannot see, the onion is one massive fried onion ring placed on top of two perfectly crisped slices of bacon. Aged cheddar is melted throughout the burger and penetrates each Texas filled bite. This is the ultimate Southern style burger and it is a beautiful mess (yes it gets all over).
Not pictured I would like to mention the Californian burger, which I have had on a previous visit. It is their turkey burger, topped with avocado, Swiss cheese and truffle mayo. Might not necessarily be “healthy” but so flavorful and probably as fresh as a burger can taste- highly recommend this one too!
All around, another stellar review for Black Tap. Be back soon and on your next Big Apple trip, stand in line, you won’t regret it.
