Buttermilk biscuits made from scratch are perfect for breakfast, branch or even dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 5 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

Preheat oven to 425F.

  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
  2. Rub in your butter until the flour looks like coarse meal.
  3. Add buttermilk and mix to form a soft dough.
  4. Transfer your dough onto a floured surface and pat out gently to form a rectangle, about 3/4 inch thick with your dough. Fold it once and then pat again. Repeat two more times.
  5. Cut it out with a round biscuit cutter.
  6. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper making sure they are not touching.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Brush with melted butter.

Notes

I love to place mine on checkered paper sheets  for that extra touch.
