Brickell is probably as close to a NYC vibe as you’re going to get in Miami. Apartment living mixed with bodegas, restaurants, and some shops in between, it’s walkable and its’ own little community. We’re fully embracing that these days and spending some time wandering around and trying out the spots. As the winter heat kicks into overdrive, and before we surely melt in the summer, I start the Brickell Brunch series with a neighborhood classic: Moxies.
Upon sitting down with the menu (in the oh-so-chic and cute outdoor seating), one item highlighted by a square stands out immediately. Perfectly squared up brioche french toast with house-made caramel sauce. Yes please:
While there may not be too much of a difference between bites and a regular slice of toast, having it cut is cutesy and perfect, and honestly makes you feel less guilty. Just happily popping away these rich and buttery brioches breads without a care in the world.
The bread is soaked in the classic mixture of eggs, milk, and sugar, then fried in butter until golden brown and cooked through. It’s served with a caramel sauce, but I asked for maple syrup as well and was even more pleased with the substitute. This is a starter that brings you right back to your childhood. Decadent and indulgent, I prefer it to some of my favorite French Toasts. It’s sure to satisfy your sweet tooth and have your inner child doing a happy start to brunch dance.
But alas, we learn meals can’t be all sweets and sugar, so the adult in me decided to try the Southwest Omelet in an attempt to get some protein and fiber in.
I omitted the bacon so mine was made with just red and green peppers, green onions, and mixed cheese, folded together. Served with a small serving of home fries, multi-grain toast, and a bit of fresh fruit.
Perfectly cooked and plated, this is how an omelet should look! It’s a skill to fold one correctly. This one tasted as great as it looked too. Hearty and full with a generous filling of red and green peppers, adding a vibrant pop of color and a crunch. Green onions are one of my favorite secret ingredients to any dish, lending a fresh, savory note here. And then the cheese. Creamy, indulgent, and providing that gooey texture you need when you slice into an omelette. All around, a great choice for your brunch at Moxies, as I am sure any of the omelettes would be.
I’ll note the serving of fruit consists of 3 orange slices and strawberries. Hardly a “side of fruit”, but they didn’t lie. This is technically fresh fruit. No notes of the toast, and a delightful side of home fries. I appreciate the serving size too, not too heavy but not too light either. Crispy and fried golden, I thoroughly enjoyed them.
And while I only indulged in a couple of bites, it’s worth mentioning the Brunch Burger.
This is a beast. If you’re super hungry, or perhaps hungover, this is the item for you. If you’re at all worried about fat or cholesterol in your diet, look away. 100% CAB® ground chuck patty, sunny-side egg, bacon, and cheddar, served with home fries.
CAB® ground chuck patty, known for its rich flavor and juicy texture, is cooked to your preference, with smoky bacon and melty cheddar cheese on top. The addition of the egg is what sets the burger apart, and maybe over the top. As mentioned, I only had a couple of bites being full from my own meal, but I can vouch this is delicious. Indulgent, rich, and something that will leave you full and not in want of anything else. Hungry? Grab a Breakfast Burger.
Quick, delicious, and a worthy start to exploring all the Brickell brunches could have to offer. I’d happily go back and enjoy the ambiance, people-watching, drinks, and plenty more plates of brioche bites. On to the next one!
