Brews and burgers in Breck

Brews and burgers in Breck

A quarantine diary happening in the current quarantine!

That’s right- Labor Day Weekend I made an escape to appreciate the great American outdoors and that includes some great American cuisine. After a day of hiking the Mayflower Trails (or so we think), it was time to replenish and what better way than at the original and iconic, Breckenridge Brewery.

Bringing us back to life was the Caliente burger served with a plethora of rotating beers. Let’s dive in.

First and not pictured, we started with the house pretzels accompanied by the house cheese sauce and beer mustard. I’ve seen beer cheese but beer mustard? Never, and let me tell you it is brilliant. Tangy and slightly hoppy, it still has that kick that goes with a buttered, salty, sizzling pretzel (or two as you receive). If you’re not having a meal here, highly recommend at least accompanying your beer with this app. We also ordered the wings appetizer. Wings, for a reason I cannot explain, are not my thing and unsurprisingly they continued to be. Slathered in the sauce of your choice and served with ranch, celery, and carrot sticks, they’re what you expect if you order the wings. If you like wings, you’re sure to like them.

On to the main. Caliente burgers must live up to their name and this one was HOT. Making it caliente- a cilantro-lime marinated jalapeno and onion, guacamole, and chili pepper mix that topped a beef patty. It was written on the menu as “medium” but came out as a nice medium-rare and after a meant-to-be-three-hour-but-turned-into-five-hour hike, this burger hits every spot. Not only was the beef patty just as I like, but the cheese was also melted to.. well you can see for yourself in the picture, pretty sure it is still bubbling. Add sliced avocado for some soothing contrast to the heat and you have a well-balanced and delicioso burger in Breck. Oh and of course, fries.

It would be a-miss to not touch on ambiance briefly. Breckenridge is one of those “Hallmark” picture-esque towns that have the New Yorker in me saying “HOW CUTE!” at every turn. From the village architecture to the detailed flowers and plants along the sidewalks and of course the mountains in the background that make Breckenridge a ski and snowboarding winter haven. Breckenridge Brewery sits on the edge of Main Street so you can look down into all of the shops, bars, and cafes and plan your route or soak up the mountains and sun and just say a quick “thank you” for somewhat of a return to normalcy.

And because it would be incredibly rude to not include some of the scenic photos from our hike, I leave them for you here:
