Let’s just say it. 2020 has gotten off to a rough start.
From the death of a basketball legend to the devastating wildfires in Australia, to what we will not be talking about here, COVID-19- the world seems a bit apocalyptic right now. With 75% of Americans under stay at home orders, restaurants and businesses closed, and everyone mandated to stay away from friends and loved ones in order to stop the spread of a virus that has taken over the world, it’s hard to see some positive.
Yet, writing this from week 3 in my East Village apartment, in New York City, the epicenter for the United States, I realize I’ve come to find beauty in some of the small things, some of the things that typically would require pressing the pause button in the hustle and bustle of daily life would almost seem like a chore. From reading a physical book, rather than reading through on an app on the subway commuting, to cooking my first real meals and baking (the recipes found in this blog of course), rather than ordering Uber Eats, to creating Zoom happy hours with college friends around the country in the same boat as me- I’m finding the simple things and tips are actually, quite big. That includes getting to come back to this blog!!!
I am so proud of the baking business Mina has been able to build in just less than a decade. First it was an idea, then a brick and mortar storefront, then an online successful business on one of the largest retailer sites in the world, she’s beat all odds and created a life of the passion she loves. I am honored to play a small part by adding a “Food Diary” and thrilled to have some “pause time” to add to it. The Quarantine Diaries if you will.
Restaurants may not be open but I look forward to reflecting on some of the great eats over the past year, which included some fun trips to Spain, Germany, Mexico, Israel, and more! In the meantime, stay strong New York #NewYorkorNowhere:
