Delicious bread sticks you can serve with cocktails, soup or salad. You can sprinkle them with Italian herbs, oregano or powder garlic. This time I used paprika.
1 cup of milk
1 Tablespoon butter (melted)
1 Teaspoon sugar
1/2 Teaspoon salt
2.5 cups flour
1 Tablespoon instant dry yeast
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg white lightly beaten for glaze
Pour warm milk in a mixer bowl. Add sugar, salt, melted butter and Parmesan cheese. In a separate bowl whisk together flour and instant yeast. Stir flour mixture into milk and mix on medium until the dough is smooth and comes away from the sides of bowl. Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. Put dough in a large bowl, cover and let rise for at least one hour.
Roll dough out to about half inch thickness. Cut into 24 strips 5 inch long.
Twist the strips loosely and place on cookie sheets lightly greased with butter or lined with parchment paper.
Let it rise for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 425F. Brush tops of cheese twist with egg white and sprinkle with paprika. Bake for 15 minutes.
